Back from the Lonestar state

Well, the last con of the year for me is now history. Just like the alamo. (except I didn’t get beat down by 4,000 mexican soldiers like Davy Crockett … got a few dirty looks, but that’s it :) ) Texas was a lot colder than I was expecting…apparently shorts and a hawaiian shirt aren’t the ideal choice of clothing in November in Texas. Hopefully I’ll remember that for next year.

And I’ll remember that a couple small tubes of watercolor paint can be a dangerous weapon, so those are a no-no for putting them in my carry on bag. I had to sit thru the (surprisingly long) security line once, only to be told I had to either check my carry on bag or go back and find a small clear plastic bag to put the paint in. So I figured ‘fine, I’ll just check the bag’ but then I found out that I had to go thru the security line all over again. ugh. Not feeling the love for Texas…but then I was able to get on an earlier flight and get home 3 hours earlier. Thanks to a super-nice gal from American airlines. Ok, so I’m warming back up to Texas :)

Anyway, for a first timer there, I had a great time and met a lot of swell people. Sold a bunch of books, did a lot of sketches, so I can’t complain :)
Unfortunately the trend continues of where I take no pictures…I’m not sure why I even bother bringing the camera…oh well. (I guess I just get distracted by all the cute girls that come to look at the books ;) )

Did a few watercolors at the show, one of Delerium (one of the Endless from Sandman), oh, and speaking of sandman, did a small watercolor of Sandman himself. (it’s rare whenever someone asks me to sketch a male character…but he’s kind of femme anyway I guess ;) …of course I tell most people that I only draw girls at the shows (which is how I prefer it), but I was intrigued enough to give it a shot. Also did a Kitty Pryde/Lockheed/Magik painting to bring back my comic memories from the 80′s X-men books :) . Continued my trend of drawing surfer chicks for my buddy Greg who I’ve seen at a few shows now :) And many more that I can’t remember…plus a couple more watercolor pieces that I’ll be finishing up this week that I couldn’t finish at the show. doh! (over extended myself again!)

I did get to go out to dinner a couple times with friends Alberto, Carlos, Cheeks, Mike, Lauren, Chris and Drew…before heading back to finish up more sketches each night :)

Thanks to everyone that stopped by and chatted :) This has been a great year of doing the cons and I thank every new person I’ve met this year. I miss you already…ok, I’m not buying that either, but you know what I mean :)

See y’all next year (I guess Texas did rub off on me a bit)
